A pilot, flying a plane registered to an Alabama man, was injured when he crash-landed Wednesday in a hay field in eastern Clarke County in Mississippi. FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the Cessna 172 crashed about 11:30 a.m. near the Matherville community outside Shubuta. The agency is investigating.
According to a Mississippi news station, the 30-year-old pilot was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson after being treated at a hospital in Waynesboro.
The plane is registered to Freddie McCall of Brewton, Alabama. The hospital says McCall was being treated in the emergency room Wednesday evening, only describing his condition as "stable."
The station reports the plane was flying from Brewton to Waynesboro, Miss., when the pilot reported engine problems. The pilot landed in the field and was found with a head injury by a farmer plowing nearby.
