On challenging his players to demand more out of themselves:

"It's human nature to get motivated when something bad happens. But why do you need one of these ‘I-told-you-so' games? Just respond to doing what you need to do to be the best you can be and think about the things you need to do to get better. If you ask a great player, somebody like Peyton Manning or Michael Jordan, they can probably write a novel on what you need to do to get better. And if you ask some average guy on the street, he'd probably have to think about it.  It's the quality of what you're trying to do.  This is a challenging game for us in terms of every game we play technically is challenging, and these guys do a good job and are well coached, and we'll have to do the same thing against Florida Atlantic."

On Cade Foster kicking touchbacks:

"If you kick a touchback, the other team gets the ball on the 25-yard line.  That's probably as good to me as taking the chance of them hitting a good return against you or you pinning them in closer than that.  So, we're just going to let our guys do the best they can to cover every kick and let [Foster] kick it, and place it where we need to place it.  And if he kicks it in the endzone where they can't return it, we're pleased with that."

On the best way to fight mediocrity:

"Well, you know there's a lot of things we didn't do very well.  Sometimes if you're a baseball pitcher, you pitch a really good game and lose – I mean, you pitch the best and strike out a lot of guys, you get a lot of guys out but something happens in the game and you lose.  Sometimes you pitch the game and you play OK. You've played better. Maybe you pitched pretty good, but you end up winning. But the big thing is that at the end of all that, you sort of self-analyze what you did and how you did it and how you can improve it so that you can pitch better the next time. I think that's what we're trying to get our guys to do.  We didn't fit all their runs very well last week.  We got lots of turnovers. That stopped a lot of drives. It was a bad-weather day, tough to play offense for them with their passing offense.  They didn't have the quarterback. We've got a lot of things that we need to improve ourselves on so that we can be the best that we can be, so that we can play our best and be our best when our best is needed."

On if any players have progressed more quickly than anticipated:

"Not really. Most of our guys work hard every day. They've all improved. Some guys that are younger guys probably have less experience. The experience that they gain playing in games is invaluable. That actually enhances their improvement. But we've got a really young team, and we've got a lot of guys that need to focus on doing things fundamentally better so that they can improve."
