Cleveland, OH -

After four days of deliberations, jurors in the Amish beard cutting trial have not reached a verdict.  There was a question raised about conspiracy.  In response to the question the judge said a conspiracy didn't necessarily have to involve all nine victims or all 16 defendants.  Defense attorneys then argued that the indictment specified a plot against the nine victims.

The government considers the attacks hate crimes based on differences within the religion.  The defense in this case argues that it was an internal church dispute and doesn't reach a criminal level.

Federal court in Cleveland recessed late Wednesday and will resume Thursday morning.
