Study: yogurt could help keep your blood pressure down

Yogurt may not only help your digestion, it could also help keep your blood pressure down.

A study presented to the American Heart Association finds that adding yogurt to your diet may help lower your risk for hypertension.

During a 15-year study, researchers followed 2,000 people who did not have high blood pressure when the study started.  Based on questionnaires they filled out about yogurt consumption, the subjects were 31% less likely to get high blood pressure if at least 2% of their daily calories came from yogurt.  That would mean eating at least one six-ounce cup of low-fat yogurt every three days.

Yogurt eaters also had, on average, lower systolic blood pressure.  That's the first number in your blood pressure reading.
