Tennessee couple dies in Alabama plane crash

The victims of a single-engine plane crash in Cullman County near Smith Lake have been identified as a dentist and his wife from Tennessee.

Dr. Gary Cohen, 61, and his wife Nancy, 60, were killed when their plane, a Mooney M20, went down less than 200 miles away from their destination, Sumner County Regional Airport in Gallatin, Tenn..  They were on their way home from Destin, Florida. 

The couple reported problems shortly before crashing in a pasture less than a mile away from the lake.  There were reports of severe weather in the area around the time of the crash.

The bodies have been sent to a forensic lab in Huntsville for autopsies, according to Cullman County Sheriff Mike Rainey.

Cohen's dental office in Hendersonville, Tenn. confirmed the deaths.
