Browns rookie Trent Richardson beginning to impress Hall of Famer Jim Brown

Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown is starting to warm up to Cleveland Browns rookie Trent Richardson.

Richardson, the third overall pick in this year's draft, seems to be hitting his stride in Cleveland coming off minor knee surgery which caused him to miss most of fall camp. 

On Sunday, the former Alabama star rushed for 109 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals, but it was his spectacular 23-yard touchdown catch that caught the eye of Brown.

"I only saw highlights of the game, but the one he scored on the pass showed an ability that they drafted him for," Brown told the Cleveland Plain Dealer during a telephone interview.

The 76-year-old didn't exactly give Richardson a ringing endorsement with that statement, but it is far more positive than his comments in April before the NFL Draft.

"The problem is that he's ordinary. I think he's ordinary,'' Brown said of Richardson in a radio interview on April 26.

But after Sunday, it seems as though Brown is beginning to realize that No. 33 is far from ordinary.

"I didn't say he was ordinary to discourage anybody," Brown said of Richardson. "I think he's from a good proving ground at Alabama. They turned out some pretty good backs for a team that's usually No. 1."

It's obvious that Richardson is far from discouraged.  By season's end, Brown could be eating his words sort of like Philadelphia Eagles safety Kurt Coleman ate Richardson's helmet in week one.
