If you're longing for lower gas prices, you're going to have to wait a little longer.
The cost has steadily risen in recent weeks, and the national average now stands at $3.87 a gallon, according to Triple A. That is up 16 cents from a month ago, and 24 cents over this time last year.
Prices usually decline following the Labor Day weekend, but there several factors keeping prices high. Among them: tension in the middle east and recent refinery shut downs due to hurricane Isaac.
Expectations are for gas prices to start to decline and stay that way for a few months now that refineries have switched over from higher priced summer blend of gas to winter blend.
