12:40PM: Sheriff Jeff Shaver says a male body has been recovered from the lake. It is unknown if any other people were onboard the plane when it crashed. Several agencies are assisting with the recovery and investigation. The small plane appears to have clipped power lines and crashed into Weiss Lake about 500 yards away. It is totally submerged in the water and crews do not know how deep the water is in that area. There is a river channel adjacent to the wreckage that is about thirty-five feet deep.

10:50AM: Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver says crews are investigating reports of a plane down in Weiss Lake. Shaver says they have received reports the plane hit power lines and is now underwater. As of now, crews are unable to reach the plane until Tennessee Valley Authority cuts power from the lines. The plane is thought to be near the Riverside Campground, which is in the Cedar Bluff area.

An automated message on Cherokee Electric Cooperative says the areas of Highway 278, County Road 126, County Road 8, and surrounding areas are without power due to several broken poles. The company says crews have been notified and are working on restoring service, but that there is no estimated time power will be back.
