BJCTA awarded $2.5 million grant for new buses

The Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority has been awarded a $2.5 million grant from the Federal Clean Fuels Program.

The money will go towards replacing Birmingham's Compressed Natural Gas (CNS) buses that have met their useful life. The average cost of a new is bus is $450,000.

CNS buses are thought to be less expensive to maintain and much cleaner for the environment.
