Four Birmingham young girls who lost their lives in the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing that happened 49 years ago Saturday were remembered through a memorial tribute Friday morning at Kelly Ingram Park.

Close to 100 people gathered around a memorial honoring Carole Robertson, Denise McNair, Cynthia Wesley, and Addie Mae Collins. The tribute also remembered two boys, Johnny Robinson and Virgil Ware, who lost their lives in the civil rights struggle of 1963.

Sixteenth Street Baptist Church will hold a memorial service Saturday beginning at 10 am. Bells will ring when the bomb exploded at 10:22 am.
