The Samford football team held its final full practice in preparation
for Saturday's game at Gardner-Webb, Thursday afternoon at Seibert
Stadium. The Bulldogs practiced for a little over an hour in shorts and
helmets.
Samford enters this weekend's game at 2-0 on the young season. A win in
Saturday's contest would give the Bulldogs their first 3-0 start since
1995. Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said he has liked the way his team has worked this week.
"I think we've had an outstanding week of practice," Sullivan said.
"Every day they have gotten better and stayed focused. I thought today's
practice was much better than last Thursday's practice, and I am
excited about watching them play on Saturday."
Samford and Gardner-Webb will be meeting for the eighth time, with
Samford holding a 5-2 advantage in the series. The teams met last season
at Seibert Stadium, with Samford coming away with a 41-14 victory.
Gardner-Webb enters the game with a record of 0-2, with losses to
traditional powers Wofford and Richmond. Sullivan said, despite their
record, he knows his team will have its hands full with Gardner-Webb on
Saturday.
"Gardner-Webb has played two games in the rain against two really good
teams," Sullivan said. "They are a talented team and we have our work
cut out for us. We're going on the road for the first time, and a lot of
our guys are young and this will be their first trip."
The Bulldogs will leave from the Samford campus Friday morning at 11:30 a.m.
Saturday's game at Gardner-Webb is scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff
from Spangler Stadium in Boiling Springs, N.C. The game can be heard
locally on ESPN 97.3 The Zone, or worldwide on the internet at www.973thezone.com.
