LSU head coach confirmed in the weekly SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday morning that four of his players will miss the remainder of the season.

Veteran linebacker Tahj Jones, offensive lineman Evan Washington, tight end Tyler Edwards and linebacker D.J. Welter will not play this season.

Without Jones, a junior and the only starter of the four, and Welter, a sophomore, LSU's starting linebackers will all be backed up by true freshman -- including former Oxford High star Kwon Alexander.

Playing sparingly, Alexander has five tackles through two games this season, but he is just one sprained ankle or a failed drug test away from becoming a full-fledged starting linebacker in the SEC.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound freshman was a highly-rated prospect coming out of high school last year, but a knee injury cut his senior season short and he dropped off the radars of some schools.  As a junior in 2010, he tallied 144 tackles, 17 sacks, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
