BIRMINGHAM - AL -
If your family is looking for something a little less football, and a little more educational this weekend, consider Birmingham's second annual Read and Romp. It is a free, one-day children's festival for the entire community. On Saturday, September 15, 2012 hundreds of children, ages three to five, and their families can come to Railroad Park to explore many activity stations based on favorite children's books.
Along with interactive storybook stations, there will be a visit from surprise PBSkids characters. Also something of note, the first 500 children get a free bicycle helmet. Organizers say Read and Romp is a family event designed to encourage parents to be more active in the promotion of literacy among their children by reading to them and encouraging activities that make reading fun.
The festivities begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until noon.
