Governor Bentley ask for federal assistance after Hurricane Isaac

Posted: Updated:

Governor Bentley sumitted a letter to President Obama requesting a federal declaration for Public Assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a result of damage caused by
Hurricane Isaac. The counties included in the initial request are Baldwin, Mobile and Pickens.

The letter was submitted Tuesday

The declaration would provide disaster grant assistance for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged, publicly owned facilities and the facilities of certain Private Non-Profit organizations.

"Hurricane Isaac had a significant impact on Alabama. We will do everything we can to help communities that are still recovering from the effects of the storm," Governor Bentley said. "In some cases, the impact is greater than the state and local resources that are available to help. It is for that reason that we are asking for supplementary federal public assistance. This request to the President is part of our continuing efforts help communities recovering from Isaac."

Preliminary damage assessments continue in additional counties.
