Former Alabama star defensive tackle and current Buffalo Bills' starter, Marcel Dareus, lost his brother Simeon Gilmore after he was shot and killed in Pelham on Sunday.

Gilmore, 19, along with two others, Joshua Smith, 22, and Casey Cumberland, 22, were found shot to death at a home off Chandabrook Drive in the Chandalar subdivision.

Police have arrested and charged John Ingram Staggs Jr., 20, with capital murder and burglary in connection with the crime.

Bills' head coach Chan Gailey has excused Dareus to attend the funeral and expressed his condolences to the family on Wednesday.  He said Dareus told him he expects to be back in time for their home opener on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dareus, a standout at Huffman High School and the University of Alabama, was drafted third overall in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Bills.  He was the Defensive MVP in the Crimson Tide's BCS National Championship victory over Texas in 2009.  As a rookie last year, he led Buffalo in sacks with 5.5.

He is also a co-owner of 3000 Bar in Five-Points in Birmingham.
