6 plead guilty to unemployment compensation fraud

The state Department of Industrial Relations reports that six people pleaded guilty during the last half of August to making false statements to get unemployment benefits.

None of the six will have to serve time in jail provided they repay the unemployment benefits, plus any fines and court costs. The amount of unemployment benefits ranged from $2,200 to more than $9,000. Five of the six have to spend time on probation. The cases involved Howard Dragg of Selma, Ronald Franklin of Eufaula, Rosetta Thomas of Orrville, Tarvez Dion Anthony of Auburn, Kamla Cady of Birmingham, and Eric Milton of Wetumpka.

The Industrial Relations Department says it is aggressively pursuing cases of unemployment compensation fraud.
