UA's new president looks to the future on first day

Posted: Updated:

New University of Alabama president, Dr. Guy Bailey, said Tuesday he's happy to be home.  He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the university.

On his first day on the job, Bailey spent some time talking about the future and some goals he hopes the university can achieve.

He said he would like to see faculty research opportunities expanded.  "As your research expenditures increase, your external funding for research increases. I think the prestige of the university will continue to increase, and it will provide opportunities for students," he said.

Bailey is the 37th president at UA.  He replaced Dr. Robert Witt, who was named chancellor of the UA system earlier this year.

Four the past four years, Bailey was president at Texas Tech.
