HOOVER - AL -
It's a bittersweet day for the Birmingham Barons; Monday was the final pitch at Regions Park. "We had a lot if relationships here, so knowing that, it's always very painful," says owner Don Logan. Logan says a lot of great memories happened inside the stadium walls. Like when NBA legend Michael Jordan played at the ballpark. "I wish he'd come back and play another couple years for us, probably still couldn't hit but that's okay," says Logan.
Allen Pate says, "Opening night was certainly a highlight." Pate gave the first pitch at the park 25 years ago. He gave the final pitch at the last game. "I did not think this Day would come, I certainly 5 years would've never have predicted that this could happen," says Pate.
Baron fan Millard Martin says, "It is bittersweet we came out because it is the last day." But Martins' moment of bliss is shortly lived. He says although he's a fan, he won't support the team when they move downtown. "I think it's a mistake because people enjoy coming to Hoover," says Martin.
Meantime, Logan and others reminisce on the good times ad bid farewell to the arena, Logan says this isn't the end of the barons...
Logan says, "It's just another chapter."
Next season, the Barons will move to the new stadium across from Railroad park.
