Posted: Updated:

Today is a big travel day across the country. Folks are heading home after the labor day weekend. While gas prices are up this year, it did not slow down drivers or airline passengers.

AAA projected some 33 million people would travel at least 50 miles away from home this Labor Day weekend. 2.5 million travelers made the trip by plane. That's up 3.7 percent from last year.

A spokesperson with Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport said and average of 130 planes flew in and out per day over the weekend.

AAA predicted 28 million people would make their Labor Day journey by automobile.
