No Jerry Lee Lewis, not even a telethon

Posted: Updated:

In the second year without Jerry Lewis, the M.D.A. Telethon won't even be a telethon this year.  The Muscular Dystrophy Association believes telethons are a little too "old-school." The M.D.A. instead aired a three-hour prime-time special on Sunday.

Future programs will now be pre-recorded, which executives say helped them draw better talent. They think older viewers are more likely to watch new performances than younger viewers are to suddenly discover Jerry Lewis.  Since the show is no longer live, it means you can also say goodbye to telethon mainstays like appeals for donations or the running tote board.
