"Mama said knock you out!"

LL Cool J is used to taking down bad guys in films and on television, but the rapper-turned-actor took down a real intruder who broke into his L.A. home early Wednesday morning.

The 44-year-old was asleep when he heard noises in his kitchen. He went downstairs and held the man until police arrived.

Police say the suspect suffered a few bruises, but no one was seriously injured. There are reports LL broke the man's jaw. Nothing was stolen.

Through a statement from his rep, LL says he's committed to keeping his family safe, and he is cooperating with authorities.
