Social networking is helping people get good meals, and helping to feed the needy:
Foodspotting lets you preview pictures of dishes before you even pick a restaurant. It will even show food options on a map, so you can find something that appeals to your palate close to where you are. If you post pictures, other users can give you points, for a worldwide ranking.
A group of students is using social networking to stop food waste, and feed the hungry at the same time. FlashFood is still in development. It will allow people with excess food to send messages to volunteers, who then deliver the food to neighborhoods where it's needed. THe system then sends out messages to people in need, to let them know where they can pick up meals.
