Congressman Spencer Bachus is one of the co-sponsors of a bill calling for a national summit on the benefits of palliative care.
Palliative care incorporates quality of life concerns with disease-curing treatment.
Wednesday morning, Bachus met with oncologists and administrators at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Rep. Spencer Bachus (R) District 6 said, "It is becoming a national model and this legislation will enable us to move there and I actually believe what is good for the patient and speeds up their recovery makes good economic sense."
The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center treats an estimated 5,000 new patients each year.
