More than 300 children have brand new shoes and socks to kick off a new school year.
Birmingham city councilor Jay Roberson and the non-profit Samaritan's Feet hosted an event Wednesday morning at Brunswick Riverview Lanes.
"We give them a sense of renewal by saying it's OK to go to school. It's great to get an education. It will prepare you for life, that's what this means to the community," Roberson says.
The students also received free book bags and supplies. Other event sponsors included Alabama Power, Office Depot and Samford University Athletics.
