Auburn began full-contact drills Monday afternoon, conducting a two-hour practice at the Auburn Athletics Complex Practice Fields.
Team practice No. 5 of the preseason was the first in pads for the Tigers, who dodged intermittent showers and humidity throughout the afternoon.
"I thought the first day in pads, there was energy out there, which was good to see," said Auburn head coach Gene Chizik. "With everything we're trying to do, we're trying to build on the concept of physicality and being physical. We're working in that direction and I think today was a good start.
"Pushing through a hot day and pushing through a tough practice, we went live some and tackled, which was good for the first day.
"There's so much to learn – by so many people at so many different positions – but overall, I was pleased with today. I thought it was productive."
Tuesday, Auburn will undergo its first two-a-day schedule of training camp, practicing in the morning and again in the afternoon.
Sunday is Auburn's Fan Day, presented by Golden Flake, from 2-4 p.m. at Auburn Arena. Admission is free. The Tigers open the season Saturday, September 1, facing Clemson in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at Atlanta's Georgia Dome.
