A fallen soldier from Birmingham returns home

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

The body of Private First Class Julian Colvin arrived in Birmingham this morning. 

A plane carrying his body touched down at the Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport around 10:00am.  Dozens of people including his family, military members and local veterans lined the tarmac.  The military members, past and present, saluted as his flag draped coffin was brought off the plane. 

PFC Colvin's body was taken to Davenport Funeral Home on Montevallo Road in Birmingham.

PFC Colvin's funeral will be held at 6th Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, August 4th at 10:00am.  His burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

PFC Colvin, who was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, was killed serving in Afghanistan last month.

    Dozens of folks got their ''fill'' of a popular Alabama treat this Labor Day.Tannehill State Park hosted the largest Moon Pie eating contest. All total there were 65 people who signed up.     Tuscaloosa police have charged 31-year-old Teira Sherman with assault. Investigators say early Monday morning, police were called to 3100 block of 20th Street on a shooting. When they arrived, they found a 28-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. He was taken to DCH where he is being treated.
