A supervisor at the Alabama National Cemetery for veterans in Montevallo has been named director of the new Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort. Tony Ross has been supervisor of internments and maintenance in Montevallo. Before that, he served with the National Cemetery Association in Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi and Tennessee.

Construction began on the Spanish Fort cemetery in October. Ross says he expects it to be finished in spring 2013. The cemetery for veterans and their family members will have nearly 2,800 burial plots in its initial phase. That phase will cover about 23 acres of the 122-acre site.
