Jefferson County Commission tables vote on consulting firm

Posted: Updated:

Jefferson County Commissioners have to figure out if they can afford to keep using a consulting firm. The firm was hired to help the commission with its financial troubles. FTI is a Dallas based consulting firm Jefferson County Commissioners hired back in March.

Today, commissioners tabled a vote on whether to continue using the firm. FTI was hired to develop three plans to help save the county several million dollars. Commissioner George Bowman says he doesn't need any more information from FTI and he's is opposed to the contract.

"I think we've already paid them enough. We've paid them over 800-thousand dollars. I don't think we need to pay them another 275-thousand dollars just to read to us. I can read. I don't need to pay someone 275-thousand dollars to read to me," said Bowman.

Commissioner Joe Knight says he doesn't think they should pay a company to tell them what they already know. It's the association of county commissioner of Alabama.
