VMA noms announced - ABC 33/40 - Birmingham News, Weather, Sports

The AP reports Rihanna and Drake are lead the pack with five nominations each  for this year's Video Music Award nominations. Katy Perry, who won big last year, has four nominations.

Two videos by Rihanna are up for video of the year.  They are "We Found Love" and for her duet with Drake on "Take Care."  Katy Perry's "Wide Awake"; Gotye's for "Somebody That I Used To Know"; and M.I.A. for "Bad Girls."

The VMA's take place on September 8, 2012, and the network will air it live from L. A.  Performers include Alicia Keys and One Direction.  That group is nominated for Best Pop Video for "What Makes You Beautiful."
