Tax free weekend for Back to School items Aug 3-5

    The Etowah County Sheriff's Office says an inmate kitchen worker escaped the Etowah County Detention Center Friday morning. 

Beginning at 12:01 Friday morning August 3, 2012, and continuing until midnight Sunday August 5, 2012, Alabama will have it's 7th annual sales tax holiday.

This will give shoppers the opportunity to buy school supplies, computer, and clothing without having to pay state sales or use tax. Some local sales and use tax may apply.

Exempt Items:

CLOTHING - $100 or Less, per article of clothing - Includes all human wearing apparel suitable for general use

COMPUTERS, COMPUTER SOFTWARE, & SCHOOL COMPUTER SUPPLIES - A single purchase with a sales price of $750 or Less

SCHOOL SUPPLIES, SCHOOL ART SUPPLIES & SCHOOL INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL - Sales Price of $50 or Less, per item (Noncommercial Purchases)

BOOKS – Sales Price of $30 or Less, per book (Noncommercial Purchases)
