Around 6:00 Monday morning, the Jacksonville Police Department attempted to stop a 2001 Honda Civic for speeding. The driver, 21 year old Lydia Rachel Berkey increased her speed and began to drive in an erratic manner. She ran a number of red lights and weaved in and out of traffic in an effort to get away from law enforcement.

Ms Berkey's speed reached 120 mph before coming down the hill on Quintard Avenue as 22nd Street, where she lost control of the vehicle, crossed oncoming traffic lanes and hit curb before flipping several times. After her car came to rest between 19th and 20th Street, she exited the vehicle and surrendered to police.

She was checked and cleared by Anniston EMS, and transported to the Jacksonville Police Department for booking. During this process, it became apparent that Ms Berkey needed further assistance. The Calhoun County Mental Health Officer was notified, and she was later transported to Anniston RMC for treatment.
