Dessert lovers rejoice! Today is National Cheesecake Day. Here is something that may surprise you. The creamy, sweet goodness has a connection to the Olympics. It was thought to be a good source of energy in ancient Greece. It was served to the first Olympians in 776 B.C.
However, the dessert we all know and love as cheesecake -- the stuff with cream cheese-- actually got it start in New York in the 1870s. Arnold Reuben-- yes the same Reuben of sandwich fame-- is credited with creating the cheese-based recipe for the New York-style cheesecake.
