The 1st Annual "Stop the Violence Family and Fun Day" is scheduled for Saturday, August 18 at 2pm in Fairview Park (2501 28th Street Ensley - Birmingham 35208)
This free event will focus on reaching out to the community to show a united commitment to be positive mentors and role models for the children in an effort to decrease crime in the city and state.
Activities will range from face painting to train rides, and there will be several contests with cash prizes, and moments where local pastors and motivational speakers will speak against violence. There will also be free food and drinks at the park and a balloon releasing ceremony to honor loved ones who were victims of violent crimes in Alabama and across the world.
Community organization tables will be set up to talk about their programs, voter registration, GED classes, giving out FREE school supplies, and an upcoming Mentor program.
