Technology can help you get into the great outdoors. A hobby called geocaching is basically using satellite technology to go on a worldwide treasure hunt. It starts by going to geocaching.com, and setting up an account. Then, you can search for caches online and use a GPS unit to find them. If you don't have a GPS, there are geocaching apps available for Android and iPhone.
Inside a cache, you'll find a log book, and items called 'swag'. Some also contain trackable items. These are taken from cache to cache, in an effort to travel around the country and the world.
Some caches are virtual. They're called Earthcaches. They often lead a person to a place of great natural beauty, or a an historic site.
