Birmingham soldier dies in Afghanistan

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

A soldier from Birmingham has lost his life in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced that 21 year old PFC Julian Colvin died Sunday. He passed away after he was wounded by an improvised explosive device.

A staff sergeant from Arizona also died in the explosion. Both men were assigned to the 508th Special Troops Battalion, based in North Carolina.

No word yet on funeral plans for Colvin.
