BIRMINGHAM-AL -

Many Birmingham parents are frustrated due to the lack of action on a financial plan to save Birmingham City Schools more than $12 million dollars.

Tuesday night, school board members were supposed to vote on a plan to layoff around 200 employees, but they fired Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon instead, leaving the start of school in limbo.

School is slated to begin August 20th, but state officials wanted to push the start date back three days to ensure staff is in place.

State officials said Wednesday that school is expected to be delayed given the delays in adopting a plan to make the school system financially solvent.
