
There is now a pill approved to help protect you from sexually transmitted HIV Infection.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of a pill to help prevent HIV infection in uninfected, high-risk people.
This is a first.
The drug is called Truvada. It is taken daily for pre-exposure protection or in combination with safer sex practices.
Experts say, Truvada alone should not be used to prevent HIV infection.
FDA-recommended safer sex practices include HIV testing every three months, strict adherence to recommended dosing and counseling.
