Karts
return to Barber Motorsports Park this weekend, ending a five-year
absence at the picturesque facility. More than 250 karts are expected at
the three-day event, which begins Friday with a practice session for
all classes as well as a qualifying session for the Superkart class.
"We're excited about bringing the karts back to Barber," said Rick
Humphrey, vice president of ZOOM Motorsports, the exclusive event
promoter of the Barber Motorsports Park. "The karts were a big hit when
they were last here in 2007, but our schedules haven't allowed us to
bring them back until this year."
The event is being hosted by ZOOM and the Big South Series.
Pre-entries for the event include drivers ranging in age from 14 to 74
years of age and participants from 18 states. Karts can reach up to 130
mph on the 2.38-mile, 17-turn course.
The event is open to spectators all three days and gates open at 7
a.m. daily. Tickets are $30 for a three-day pass or $25 for a daily
pass. Children 10 and under are $10. Tickets can be purchased at the
Park upon entering the gates.
Saturday's activities include practice with racing action beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday's races begin at noon.
While at Barber Motorsports Park, fans are also encouraged to visit
the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, a 144,000 square foot home to the
largest private collection of motorcycles, representing 20 countries
and over 200 manufacturers. Tickets to the Museum are available for an
additional fee and can be purchased at the door.
