A report released recently in Community College Week
ranks Wallace State Community College in Hanceville among the nation's
top associate degree-granting institutions. Wallace State is recognized
among the "Top
50 Associate Degrees: Health Professions and Related Clinical Sciences"
and "Top 50 Associate Degrees: Registered Nursing, Nursing
Administration, Nursing Research and Clinical Nursing."
"We are honored to have been recognized again for
the college's great track record for graduating students," said Wallace
State President Vicki Hawsey. "We are confident that our selection as an
Achieving the Dream College and a Top 120
College by the Aspen Institute as we plan the Fall 2013 opening of our
new School of Nursing, Nursing Simulation Center, and Center for Science
will lead to even greater student learning outcomes in the future."
For Health Professions, Wallace State ranks 22nd among all colleges and universities on the
Community College Week list this year, and eighth among community
colleges, with 497 students having graduated from one of the college's
health care-related programs of study. A 13 percent increase moved
Wallace State up one spot from last year.
Wallace State's Nursing Program graduated 228 registered nurses, placing it 21st among community colleges nationally and 33rd when combined with universities granting registered nursing and related degrees.
"We
are excited to again be recognized as one of the top fifty schools for
producing associate degrees in the health sciences," said Lisa German,
Dean of Health Sciences.
Wallace State has the largest health science division in the Alabama
Community College System. Our goal is to continue to be able to offer a
variety of health science career options to our students while
maintaining a high level of quality in both our graduates
and programs."
Wallace State offers programs in Child Development,
Clinical Laboratory Technician, Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene,
Diagnostic Imaging (Radiology), Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Emergency
Medical Services, Gerontology, Health Information
Technology with additional certificates in Medical Coding and Medical
Transcription, Massage Therapy, Medical Assistant, Practical Nursing,
Registered Nursing, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Pharmacy Technology,
Physical Therapist Assistant, Polysomnography
(Sleep Lab), Respiratory Therapy, and Human Services with certificates
in Drug and Alcohol Associate, Mental Health Technician, and Social Work
Associate.
