Charles
DeBruce, of Birmingham, has been charged with Capital Murder, Attempted Murder,
and Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling, for his role in the murder
of 63 year old Williams Evans Sunday, July 1.
DeBruce is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.
On
Sunday, July 1, 2012 at approximately 5:30PM Officers from the East Precinct
responded to the 100 block of 68th Place North after hearing
gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, officers located a male and female
suffering from gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported both
victims to U.A.B. Hospital for treatment. Hospital staff pronounced Evans as deceased
and the female victim was treated and released. Officers from the South
Precinct later located the suspect, who also required treatment for a gunshot
wound sustained during the shooting.
During
the investigation, officers learned that an altercation occurred just before the
shooting between DeBruce and Evans.
