A new study questions hastening childbirth by scheduling cesarean deliveries strictly for convenience.
A full term pregnancy is considered between 37 and 41 weeks.
Researchers found that more children born at 37 or 38 weeks did not do as well on third grade math and reading tests as those born just a week or two later. Doctors think the extra time in the womb results in more brain development.
The study was published in the journal "Pediatrics."
