MCDONALD CHAPEL - AL -
Members at Katherwood Baptist church say even though he may be feeling the heat; it's not stopping the congregation from worshiping this Sunday.
Church member Robert Jackson says, "We're here to serve the lord, and worship him and it doesn't change that one bit."
ABC 33/40 was first in telling you about thieves who stole five air conditioner units from the church. Thieves steal the units to strip metal out of them to sell, leaving this house of worship with no central air. Now, they have to worship in the annex.
Pastor Pesnell let the congregation know that he thought about changing his message after the units were stolen, instead he preached a sermon on what a mustard seed represents. He still takes a compassionate stance towards the thieves.
Pastor Dean Pesnell says, "One thing I believe that god wants us to do, is to pray for the people that took these air conditioner units."
And as the church continues to pray for the thieves, members say, the greatest gift isn't about being cool, it's about saving souls.
Member Imogene Sloman says, "Satan gets control sometimes, over some people's lives and that's not good, we just pray that god will convict these people and lay it on their hearts to not do these things anymore." Jackson says, "God's going to deal with these people, our purpose is to continue to worship him and his job is what he'll do to those people to deal with them."
Police are still looking for the people responsible for the thefts. If you have any information, call the Jefferson County's sheriff's office.
