BIRMINGHAM - AL -
A recent string in air conditioning units stolen from this church has the congregation up in arms. Pastor Dean Pesnell with Katherwood Baptist Church says, "It's frustrating, they did it at night."
He says the church is looking at $2,500 worth of repairs. Pesnell says, "there are things that we can do for the glory of god, things we can do in the kingdom of god with that money." Thieves not only stole the copper from a few of the units, they stole the entire air conditioning system late at night, came back the next night and stole more...
Leaving nothing but hanging wires and a broken gate.
Since the crime, the church has hired a security officer who now patrols this house of worship. Bryan Falls, the security officer says, "just patrolling the grounds, making sure nobody comes in, I've been in contact with the police officer every hour on the hour, checking on me, walking behind the building with me." Falls is also a member of the church; he says he can't even begin to put this crime into words. Falls says, "I'm speechless, I really am speechless over the whole ordeal."
They will now have to worship in the annex in the back of the building.
And with rising temperatures, Pastor Pesnell says this 83 year old church is starting to feel the heat. He leaves the following words for those who took part in the crime.
Pesnell says, "I would just ask them to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior."
There have also been similar crimes at churches in the area.
If you have any information about this, you're encouraged to call the Birmingham Police department.
