Red Cross volunteers dispatched to Florida

Posted: Updated:

The American Red Cross is continuing to provide relief to families and communities impacted by Tropical Storm Debby in Florida. Red Cross workers are working to give people affected by the storm immediate necessities such as shelter, food and clean water as well as starting them on the road to recovery. The Red Cross has opened 11 shelters in Florida, providing a place to stay for nearly 200 people. Close to 200 trained disaster workers and 20 response vehicles are currently supporting relief efforts for the communities affected by Debby.

Red Cross volunteers train throughout the year to be able to offer specific skill sets based on their interest and the services the Red Cross provides during disasters. The Alabama Red Cross often shares its resources of dedicated volunteers and staff with other areas when the need arises, along with other Red Cross Chapters around the country. Red Cross disaster relief deployments normally last one to three weeks and we appreciate these volunteers for their commitment to help our neighbors in need.
