TROY, Alabama -

Two former champions are tied atop the leader board after two rounds of the 49th Girls State Junior Championship at Troy Country Club.

2009 winner Gabi Oubre of Mobile and defending champion Alex Harrell of Phenix City are both on two-over-par 146.

Harrell shot 71 Wednesday, with Oubre one higher. They hold a two shot lead over Scottsboro's Logan Chaney who has carded back-to-back 74's for 148.

These girls all lead the 16-18 age group and overall championship.

This three-day championship concludes Thursday and has three age divisions: 16-18, 14-15 and 12-13. The two older age divisions are eligible to win the overall state girls title.

Oubre has played in four consecutive U.S. Junior Girls Amateurs. She had four birdies on Nos. 1, 10, 11 and 14 and four bogeys on Nos. 5, 12, 15 and 17 for her even par second round.

Harrell, 17 and a rising senior at Central High School in Phenix City, went one better with four birdies, a bogey and a double bogey.

Chaney, who lost in the semi-finals of the Women's State Amateur last week, makes up the final pairing on Thursday at 9:36 off No. 1.

The 14-15 age group is led by Ashton Maddaloni of Eclectic and Micheala Williams of Athens, who are both on 158.

The round of the day, and championship, was turned in by Virginia Green of Point Clear in the 12-13 age group. She shot a remarkable 67, with a run of five birdies in six holes to start the back nine (Nos. 10, 11, 12, 13 and 15).

Combined with her opening round 78, she is on 145 for two rounds, and is 14 clear of second-placed Mychael O'Berry of Hoover.
