Want to cut more calories? Well, what are eating?
New research suggests that some combinations of foods may burn more calories than others.
Researchers at the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children's Hospital compared a low-fat diet, a very low-carbohydrate diet and a low-glycemic-index diet.
They found that people on very low-carb diets used the most calories.
People on the low-glycemic-index diet also burned more calories than those on the low-fat diet, but fewer than those on the very low-carb diet.
One downside though, they found that the very low-carb diet boosts stress hormones and inflammation.
Study results appear in the June 27 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
