The sky over the Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport is now safer for planes.
Monday night, USDA Wildlife officials killed 102 geese in nearby East Lake, Patton and Avondale Parks. They say the birds' meat will be processed and donated to an unnamed local charity, as was done last year.
The kill was a joint effort between the wildlife officials and City of Birmingham. It was necessary due to FCC requirements to maintain safe flight operations.
