Pratt City homicide: Investigators say it was self defense

Posted: Updated:

No arrests will be made in a Pratt City shooting.  Deandrea Thomas, 22, was shot and killed Tuesday around 4:45 p.m.  The incident happened in the 500 block of Avenue V.  Although a suspect surrendered himself to authorities, he has been released.  Investigators and the District Attorney's office is now calling the shooting a "justifiable homicide."

Homicide investigators presented the case to the District Attorney's office who acknowledged that the case will be ruled as justifiable. The District Attorney's office advised investigators the ruling was due to the fact that the shooter was acting in self-defense when he shot the Thomas. During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Thomas attacked the shooter, striking him with fist and banging his head against the wall while choking him.

Friends and family of Deandrea Thomas are planning a prayer vigil for the aspiring rapper.  It is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday in Pratt City.
