By close of business Friday, the State Board of Education expects to have a specific list provided to it by the Birmingham Board of Education. The list must have names attached to a jobs to be eliminated. The jobs would be cut under a financial plan designed to reduce the school system's budget by $12 million.
Four people appointed by the state have been in Birmingham working with the local board to make certain the task is completed on time.
The entire plan must be approved by June 26. If this doesn't happen, the State Board of Education immediately will move to takeover the school system.
