Governor Robert Bentley signed an executive order Thursday creating a task force to streamline 22 state agencies with law enforcement duties.
The Integrated State Law Enforcement Task Force will identify savings of 10 percent by Oct. 1st and create a consolidation plan by Dec. 15th.
"Our top priority in any decision that we make will be public safety," said Governor Bentley. "This is about making sure our agencies are working hand-in-hand with each other. Through better coordination and increased efficiency, I believe we can provide better public safety. These efforts will help us make the best use of the resources we have and will also help us better serve the people of this state."
Task force members do not expect massive layoffs included in the consolidation plan and plan to reduce staff through attrition.
